CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team battled Appalachian State to a 2-2 draw Thursday evening at Cobb Stadium, moving to 4-1-1 on the season.

The Mountaineers struck twice in the opening 13 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Miami responded with a dominant second half, holding App State without a shot while creating seven opportunities of its own.

The Hurricanes broke through in the 73rd minute when Zoie Fontenot found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season, cutting the deficit to one.

Four minutes later, Miami earned a penalty kick and goalkeeper Atlee Olofson converted to level the match at 2-2. The goal marked Olofson’s second of the season and second of her career.

The Hurricanes continued to push for the go-ahead goal, but neither side was able to break the tie before the final whistle.

Miami controlled the offensive numbers, finishing with an 11-3 advantage in shots, a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.

Overall, Fontenot led Miami with four shots, including two on goal, while Olofson played all 90 minutes in net.

Miami returns to action Sunday, Sept. 6, as the Hurricanes travel across town to take on FIU. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m., with the match airing on ESPN+.
