CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team took a 2-1 lead into halftime, but Clemson scored twice after the break to defeat the Hurricanes, 3-2, Thursday night at Cobb Stadium.

Miami moved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-2 in ACC play, while Clemson improved to 6-2-2 and 2-1 in the conference.

Clemson opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a penalty kick. Miami answered in the 35th minute when Crosby Nicholson scored her second goal of the season off assists from Amanda Peck and Ciara Alarcon.

Less than four minutes later, Nicholson helped put the Hurricanes in front, assisting Teegan Melenhorst’s first goal of the season alongside Alessia Saia. Miami carried the 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Clemson tied the match in the 56th minute before scoring again in the 60th to take a 3-2 lead it held for the remainder of the match.

Clemson finished with an 8-6 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Miami earned four corner kicks to Clemson’s two, and goalkeeper Atlee Olofson recorded three saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Hurricanes next matchup will be on the road at Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live coverage on ACCNX.
