CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami soccer forward Vivien Muchuruza was named ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Muchuruza delivered a career performance in Miami’s 2-1 victory over SMU on Friday, scoring both goals to lead the Hurricanes to a win in their ACC opener.

After the teams played to a scoreless first half, Muchuruza opened the scoring in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Atlee Olofson provided the assist as Muchuruza found the back of the net for the first goal of her collegiate career.

Muchuruza struck again in the 79th minute, converting a penalty kick to give Miami a 2-0 advantage. The goal ultimately proved to be the game-winner after SMU scored in the 84th minute.

The freshman made the most of her opportunities, scoring on both shot attempts to record the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career.

The recognition marks Muchuruza’s first career weekly conference honor.
