Hurricanes Fall to No. 22 Blue Devils

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (13-6, 8-4 ACC) fell, 4-2, to the No. 22 Duke Blue Devils (17-6, 10-2 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Blue Devils took the doubles point to open the match. Duke’s Liv Hovde and Aspen Schuman took court three, 6-1, over Daria Volosova and Dominika Podhajecka. They then clinched the doubles point on court one, 6-2, from Irina Balus and Shavit Kimchi over Raquel Gonzalez and Sofia Rocchetti.

In singles, Sebastianna Scilipoti tied it with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Claire An, before No. 116 Podhajecka took down No. 123 Eleana Yu, 6-3, 7-5, to take the lead.

Duke then took three straight courts to seal the win. Kimchi took down Arai on five, No. 16 Balus won it over No. 36 Gonzalez and No. 70 Schuman clinched it over No. 105 Rocchetti.

The Hurricanes will head to Cary, N.C., for the ACC Tournament on Thursday. Their matchup will be announced at a later time.
