Miami Concludes Competition at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field team closed out the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational with four wins and numerous program top-five records Saturday at Cobb Stadium.

In his first collegiate competition, Tyson Schiele recorded the second-longest throw in program history in the javelin at 73.29m. Alva Back set the school’s second-longest throw in the women’s javelin with a distance of 49.87m.

A week after setting the nation’s longest mark in the triple jump and being named the ACC Co-Field Athlete of the Week, Adraina Kruzmane set the school’s third-longest jump at 13.42m and won the event with a wind-aided mark of 13.48m. Dominique Johnson placed second behind Kruzmane with a distance of 13.00m.

Maddie Scheier won the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:39.37.

Nandy Kihuyu, Janay Moorer, Aniyah Brown and Iyonna Codd clocked a 44.61 in the women’s 4×100 relay to finish second. Kennedy Sauder placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 2.12m.

Enrique Borrego won the men’s 1500m at 4:00.71 as Matthew Thomas finished third at 4:10.94. Samantha Kavanagh won the women’s 800m with a collegiate-best time of 2:09.96.

In the women’s 1500m, Lexi Arambulo finished third at 4:42.79. Brittney Jennings registered a time of 13.66 in the women’s 100m hurdle final to place third.

Ashton Torns clocked a 10.49 in the 100m to take third, and Morgan Roundtree set a collegiate-best in the 400m hurdles at 59.44 to place third.

To close out the meet, the women’s 4×400 relay of Kihuyu, Gabriella Grissom, Serena Tate and Moorer placed second at 3:35.51.

Miami returns to action Friday and Saturday as it competes at the Florida Relays in Gainesville.
