Three Hurricanes Named All-Americans on Day 2
ATLANTA – A night after finishing as the national runner-up on the 1-meter springboard, freshman sensation Matteo Santoro delivered another standout performance at the McAuley Aquatic Center Friday.
Santoro picked up his second All-America honor in as many days, finishing fourth nationally on the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
In addition to his strong showing, Jake Passmore and Mohamed Farouk pulled in Honorable Mention All-America honors with top-16 finishes on the Georgia Tech campus.
Santoro, who ended in third place in qualifying, delivered his top effort of the night on an eye-popping forward 4 ½ somersault tuck– his second dive – that scored 102.60 and helped secure another impressive finish. He finished with 465.95 points.
The Italy native posted 417.35 points in the qualifying round to earn his spot in the finals. Santoro scored at least 70 points on four of his six dives in prelims, including 79.90 on a forward 2 ½ somersault with two twists from pike.
Farouk was 10th in the morning round with 380.75, less than four points away from qualifying for the finals. He soared up the leaderboard on his last effort, a forward 4 ½ somersault tuck that scored him a whopping 93.10 points.
Passmore was 15th in qualifying to clinch his second Honorable Mention All-America honor in as many days. The redshirt freshman posted a score of 370.55, 71.40 of which came on a forward 2 ½ somersault with two twists from pike.
The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships continue Saturday from Atlanta.
