Miami Opens Competition at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field team opened the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational with a win and a quartet of top-five marks Friday at Cobb Stadium.
Desmond Coleman highlighted the day by winning the discus with a throw of 59.42m, improving his third-best mark. In the meet’s first event, he improved his fifth-best mark in program history in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.05m.
Utitofon Sam registered a throw of 58.07m to place third in the women’s hammer throw, and Calea Jackson placed third in the discus with a throw of 50.25m.
To close out the day in the men’s 3000m, Evan Pena clocked the fourth-fastest time in school history with a time of 8:35.93.
Miami returns to the track Saturday for day two of the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational at 9 a.m.
