Hurricanes Battle for 4-2 Win Over Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (11-3, 7-1 ACC) battled back to take down the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-9, 3-4 ACC) on Friday evening at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

Georgia Tech came out strong in doubles, notching back-to-back courts for the advantage. On court two, Taly Licht and Sabritt Dozier defeated Aely Arai and Dominika Podhajecka, 6-0, before Given Roach and Eleni Karantali took court three, 6-4, over Maria Vargas and Daria Volosova.

The Hurricanes bounced back in singles as Volosova earned a quick 6-2, 6-3 victory against Dozier, before Podhajecka finished on court five over Olivia Carneiro, 6-4, 6-3.

In her debut at the top court, No. 101 Sofia Rocchetti notched a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 66 Alejandra Cruz to extend the lead. The Yellow Jackets then added another point with a win on court three from Roach over Arai, 7-6 (2), 6-4, before Jaquelyn Ogunwale secured the win after a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Seri Nayuki.

Miami will head to Clemson to face the Tigers on Sunday.
