W. Tennis Falls to No. 15 Virginia

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (10-3, 6-1 ACC) fell, 4-1, to the No. 15 Virginia Cavaliers (13-4, 6-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Virginia opened the match with the doubles point. On court one, UVA’s Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang won 6-3 over Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka, while Isabella Lacy and Katie Rolls defeated Maria Vargas and Daria Volosova, 6-3, on court three.

The Cavaliers notched back-to-back singles courts to go up 3-0. UVA’s Kaitlyn Rolls took court three, 7-5, 6-3, over Sebastianna Scilipoti and No. 81 Yang defeated No. 101 Sofia Rocchetti, 6-3, 6-4.

Gonzalez, ranked No. 67, earned her highest ranked win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 32 Annabelle Xu to put a point up for Miami. Virginia then sealed it with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win from No. 108 Lacy over Jaquelyn Ogunwale.

The Hurricanes will head to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia Tech on Friday.
