Miami Track & Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program kicked off its outdoor campaign Friday hosting the Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium.

Jocelyn Pringle, a transfer from East Carolina, got the meet off to a great start for the Canes in the women’s hammer throw. Pringle finished second with a toss of 62.35m — the second-best mark in school history.

Desmond Coleman placed third in the men’s hammer with a throw of 59.34m, which was just shy of his career best. He also finished second in the discus (54.14m) behind Virginia Tech’s Yekini Bowen (57.64m).

Payton Serraglio took first in the women’s pole vault, clearing 3.65m for the fourth-best result in program history. Utitofon Sam paced a trio of Canes in the women’s discus, finishing in fourth place (49.13m).

Miami finished 1-2 in the women’s long jump with Jovana Micic taking first at 5.89m and Dominque Johnson placing second at 5.76m. Steven Franco finished second in the men’s long jump – first among college competitors – with a leap of 6.99.

The Hurricane Invitational continues Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at noon. Live meet results can be found here. Admission to Cobb Stadium is free.
