W. Tennis Sweeps Seminoles to Extend Win Streak
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (9-2, 5-0 ACC) swept the Florida State Seminoles (4-10, 0-5 ACC) on Monday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Due to inclement weather, the match originally scheduled for Sunday was moved to Monday morning. Despite the weather, the Hurricanes came out strong with two doubles wins for the opening point.
Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka defeated Eva Shaw and Tina Li, 6-4, at the top court, while Sebastianna Scilipoti and Sofia Rocchetti battled back to down Laura Putz and Abby Kelliher, 6-4.
In singles, Scilipoti earned the dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Putz on court three, before Aely Arai followed it up with another strong 6-2, 6-2 win against Li on court four.
Podhajecka secured the Miami win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cade Cricchio at the No. 5 spot.
When play was halted, No. 94 Gonzalez led No. 125 Shaw, 6-4, 3-5, at the top court, Rocchetti led Mary Boyce Deatherage, 6-4, 5-2, on court two and Volosova was down 4-6, 0-5 to Kelliher on court six.
The Hurricanes remain at home to face Old Dominion on Wednesday.
