Five Miami Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships
ATHENS, Ga. — Five Miami Hurricanes divers punched tickets to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships with strong showings at Zone B qualifying at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, which concluded Wednesday.
Among Miami’s top performers over the four-day event were Chiara Pellacani, who qualified on both the 1-meter and 3-meter, and Margo O’Meara, who managed the same on both springboards.
On the men’s side, freshman Matteo Santoro and redshirt freshman Jake Passmore accomplished the same feat by earning their spots on both the 1-meter and 3-meter. Senior Mohamed Farouk qualified in the platform, where he earned All-America honors as a sophomore in 2023, and will also dive in the 3-meter.
Coming off a Women’s Most Valuable Diver award at the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships, Pellacani continued her red-hot postseason with the top finish in 1-meter qualifying (662.85). Pellacani finished second in 3-meter qualifying (769.90) while O’Meara was seventh (641.40).
In her first year at Miami, O’Meara was fifth in 1-meter qualifying (624.65).
On the men’s 1-meter springboard, Santoro (778.15) was second, while Passmore was sixth (743.80). Santoro took the top honors on the 3-meter (895.55) qualifying event on his final day of competition, while Passmore added a 3-meter berth by finishing 10th with a score of 782.75.
Farouk placed second in platform qualifying Wednesday, posting a score of 776.10. By virtue of his platform performance, he also qualified for the 3-meter by finishing 12th.
The NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships are set for March 18-21 in Atlanta at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus, while the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships are slated for March 25-28 in the same venue.
