W. Tennis Shuts Out FAU, 4-0
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (3-1) shut out the FAU Owls (3-3), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami jumped out early by securing the doubles point. Court two’s Maria Vargas and Daria Volosova dominated with a 6-1 win over Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkov. Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka then earned a 6-4 win at the top court against Lara Smejkal and Malwina Rowinska.
When play was halted, Sebastianna Scilipoti and Sofia Rocchetti were down 4-5 to Malika Amirgaliyeva and Alexia Patru.
In singles, Podhajecka notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court five over Amirgaliyeva, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bartha from Gonzalez on court one.
In her first match of the season, Sofia Rocchetti clinched the Miami win against Smejkal after a 6-2, 7-6 (4) score at the No. 2 spot.
On court three, Ela Plosnik was tied with Rowinska, 6-4, 6-7, while No. 97 Aely Arai led Pavkova, 7-6, 2-3, and Volosova held a 6-4, 6-5 advantage over Patru.
Miami will be back in action tomorrow against UCF.
