S&D Splits Tri-Meet with FIU, Harvard
MIAMI – The Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving team split its tri-meet with host FIU and visiting Harvard Saturday afternoon the Doral Aquatic Center.
Miami topped the host Panthers, 180-119, but fell to the Crimson, 189.50-108.50, in one of its final meets of the regular season.
Chiara Pellacani won the 1-meter (359.10) and 3-meter (330.15) diving events just ahead of teammate Margo O’Meara (356.00, 326.50), who took second on both boards, to highlight the afternoon.
Veteran Kate Sommerstad took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:28.50) to score early points for the Hurricanes, while sophomore Ashlyn Massey added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.91).
Savannah Barr was third in the 100-yard freestyle (51.48) while Phoebe Mayo captured UM’s first individual victory in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.53), just ahead of second-place finisher Sarah Sensenbrenner (2:02.77).
Freshman Sophie Lenze was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.53) and Massey added points with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (55.36).
The Hurricanes travel to Atlanta to face host Georgia Tech and visiting South Carolina on Jan. 24.
