Miami Secures 3-1 Win Over Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 14 ranked University of Miami volleyball team (22-4, 12-3 ACC) took down the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-14, 6-9 ACC), 3-1, on Friday night at the Purcell Pavilion.
The Hurricanes tallied 53 kills, 60 digs, seven aces and five blocks. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 32 kills, while senior Naylani Feliciano led with 17 digs.
Miami opened on a 7-1 run to lead 13-7, while Rodriguez earned her 2,000th career assist with a set to Wilson to extend it. Miami then picked up multiple scoring runs with kills around the court and hit .444 as a team for the 25-14 win.
Set two started with a pair of aces from Wilson and Rodriguez, followed by a 3-0 run with Heredia Colon notching her eighth kill for the 11-5 lead. Rodriguez then earned back-to-back kills while Danilovic added another to ultimately take set two, 25-14.
Notre Dame opened with the 5-2, but with many errors from the Fighting Irish and a kill from N’Diaye, Miami evened the set at 12-all. The teams traded points, but Notre Dame led 20-15 until Miami came back from three saves in a point from Feliciano to tie it up. Heredia Colon earned back-back kills to tie it at 24, but the Irish took the set, 26-24.
The Hurricanes got off on a 7-4 start with a kill and block from Logan Wiley, but Notre Dame notched a 4-0 run to lead 10-8. Rodriguez then secured consecutive kills for the 7-1 run to lead 17-14. With three blocks and 15 kills, Miami finished the set 25-18 for the win.
Miami will head to Louisville, Ken., to face the Cardinals on Sunday.
