Antonio Prat Qualifies for NCAA Singles Championships
ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Antonio Prat qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships in Orlando, Fla., after becoming victorious in the quarterfinal playoffs of the ITA Sectionals Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The qualification into the tournament marks the first time in Prat’s career and second in a row for the men’s tennis program under head coach Alex Santos.
Prat started his run for a punched ticket with a straight-set 7-5, 6-2 win over Mississippi’s No. 62 Niccolo Baroni in the round of 32. Then, he secured a 6-2, 7-5 victory against over Hugo Coquelin (Vanderbilt), but fell 3-6, 6-1, 3-6 to Kentucky’s Eli Stephenson in the quarterfinals.
Despite him falling short of the semifinals automatic qualification into the NCAA Singles Championships, Prat fought for his spot in the quarterfinal playoffs for his automatic bid. The senior earned a comeback win over Auburn’s Billy Blaydes with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 win.
The NCAA Individual Championships will take place in Orlando, Fla., on Nov. 18-23.
