The Hurricanes Place First at White Sands Invitational
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The University of Miami women’s golf team captured first place at the White Sands Invitational this weekend, posting a team total of +35. The Hurricanes delivered consistent performances with rounds of +15, +9, and +11 across three days of play.
Ashleen Kaur led the way for Miami and secured second place overall with a final score of +6. Kaur’s performance improved with each round shooting +4 on day one, +2 on the second day, and closing out the third round at even par.
Not far behind for the Canes was Rebekah Gardner shooting a three-round total of +8 in the Bahamas. Gardner secured fourth place on the player’s leaderboard going +3 in round one, shooting even on day two, and finishing round three at +5.
Cloe Amion Villarino followed in the individual standings at No. 5 with a three-round total of +10. Amion Villarino shot +3 in the first round, had her tournament best +2 in the second round, and went +5 on the third and final day.
Barbora Bujáková made her season debut at the White Sands Invitational after an off-season injury and closed out tying Miami’s Stella Jelinek at No. 13 in the individual rankings. Bujáková finished at +14 overall, shooting +5 in round one, +7 on day two, and going +2 on Sunday. Jelinek also finished at +14 with a three-day breakdown of +5, +5, and +4.
The Hurricanes also had two players compete as individuals: Katie Carman and Aada Rissanen. Carman closed out at No. 40 in the individual ranks, shooting a tournament total of +43. Rissanen followed closely in the standings at No. 43, and going +65.
The Hurricanes will now return to Miami and prepare for the spring season. The Canes next tournament will be Feb. 1, in Palos Verdes, Calif, where they will compete at Ohio State’s Therese Hession Regional Challenge.
