Dear Canes Community,

Let’s Go Canes! We just wrapped up an exciting first weekend of October with our volleyball team continuing its impressive winning streak and our football team delivering a statement rivalry victory in Tallahassee.

Five in a Row

The second-ranked Canes ran their record to 5-0 this past Saturday with a 28-22 win at Florida State. It was our first road win and first conference win of the season. Carson Beck threw for four touchdowns – two each to CJ Daniels and Malachi Toney – and our defense kept the nation’s top-ranked offense out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. It was a raucous crowd at Doak Campbell Stadium, but there was plenty of orange and green in the stands. Thank you to all our fans who made the trek north!

Mario Cristobal’s squad is off this week but returns to Hard Rock Stadium on Friday, October 17 to host Louisville. Kickoff is 7 p.m. on either ESPN or ESPN2. It’s not only an important ACC game, but the Schnellenberger Trophy is at stake. The bronzed pair of legendary Miami and Louisville head coach Howard Schnellenberger’s boots currently reside in the Hecht Center and we want to ensure they stay there. Our fans created an incredible atmosphere at Hard Rock for the four September home games and we hope to see that continue through the rest of the fall! ESPN College GameDay

September 20 was a memorable Saturday for both the University of Miami and our football program when ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast live on campus for just the second time. A crowd of nearly 6,000 enjoyed the three-hour show leading up to our win over Florida and viewers at home enjoyed it as well – ESPN announced that 2.8 million tuned in, making it the second-highest rated telecast in the show’s history. ACC Huddle also broadcast live from the Foote Green.

Thank you to everyone across campus who helped make College GameDay’s visit a rousing success and thank you to everyone who attended and helped us put on a terrific show!

Cobb Commitment

Ambassadors Chuck and Sue Cobb have generously donated $1 million to create the Cobb Stadium Facilities Fund. The Cobbs initially dedicated the stadium in 1999, and it has since served as the home of Hurricanes women’s soccer and men’s and women’s track and field. The new fund will be administered by the athletic department to improve the infrastructure of Cobb Stadium.

We are grateful to Chuck and Sue for their continued investment in Miami Athletics. Their generosity in establishing Cobb Stadium was one of the most transformative gifts in our rich athletics history, and the Cobb Stadium Facilities Fund will continue their mission of ensuring our soccer and track and field student-athletes have the best possible resources to compete.
