Miami Falls at Louisville 2-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Miami soccer team battled but ultimately fell to Louisville, 2-0, Thursday evening at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

“I am disappointed with the result tonight as I thought we had a lot of momentum and energy going into the game,” head coach Ken Masuhr said. “Credit to Louisville. They are a well coached team with a very specific style of play that I felt I didn’t prepare the team for in the best way. Our team has played the majority of the season with fight, intensity, toughness, and in the first half, we set up a system of play that didn’t allow for those things to come through. I felt our second half was much more indicative of what to expect from Miami teams as we created much more and felt the field was tilted towards their goal. I am hopeful that on Sunday we will bounce back and earn our first points in the ACC season.”

The Cardinals took the lead in the 17th minute as Emersen Jennings netted home a cross from Liza Sudyam. Louisville struck again just before the half, scoring in the 42nd minute as Lizzie Sexton was able to corral the ball off an Emily Bredek save and double the Cardinals’ advantage.

The Hurricanes came out strong out of the gate in the second half and earned a penalty in the 49th minute, but Emilie Simpson’s attempt was blocked by Erynn Floyd.

Miami registered five shots in the contest, led by Teegan Melenhorst’s two.

Bredek and Atlee Olofson split time in net with Bredek registering a pair of saves while Olofson recorded four.

Miami returns to action Sunday as the Hurricanes take on SMU. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
