Miami Falls to No. 2 Duke, 1-0
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team fell to the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.
Duke prevailed to 6-1-1 and 1-1 in the ACC, while Miami fell to 5-3-1 and 0-2 in conference play.
“I’m disappointed to not get any points from these first two ACC matches,” head coach Ken Masuhr said. “I am not one for moral victories, but to open the schedule with two Final Four teams from 2024 and make them earn every blade of grass throughout each match offered a lot of positive from our group. We have things to build on, and lots of season left so I expect the fight that this team is known for to come through in our next game against VCU. Our opponents change week to week, but our resolve and our commitment to the foundations of this program will remain the same.”
Miami goalkeeper Emily Bredek secured four saves to keep the match scoreless going into the half, while Duke notched six shots to Miami’s one shot from, Teegan Melenhorst.
The Blue Devils tallied the match’s first goal as Mia Minestrella scored at the 72:27 mark. Despite a few late opportunities, the Hurricanes fell at home for the first time this season.
Miami will hit the road for four consecutive away matches. Next up is a non-conference match vs. VCU on Thursday in Richmond, Va.
