
Scheier Breaks School Record at Southern Showcase
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – University of Miami’s Maddie Scheier led the way for the Hurricanes at their season opener as she broke the school record for the women’s 5K at the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park.
Scheier clocked a 17:04.5 to finish 12th as Miami finished 14th in the 54-team field. Scheier’s time breaks Daphnee Lavassas’ record time of 17:10.9 set at the FSU Invitational in 2022.
Emma Hencock followed with a time of 17:59.0 to finish 79th just ahead of Lillian Deskins, who finished 81st at 17:59.9. Lucia Rodbro ran an 18:28.3 and Lexi Arambulo recorded a time of 18:31.2 to finish 131st and 139th, respectively.
On the men’s side, Miami finished 12th in the 51-team field and were led by Sukai Truxal, who finished 58th at 24:47.0 in men’s 8K. Truxal’s time is the seventh-fastest in program history.
Colten Morris placed 73rd at 24:56.8, the ninth-fastest time in school history, followed by Alex Severson, who finished 95th at 25:08.0. Michael Castillo ran a 25:11.3 to place 101st, Enrique Borrego finished 146th at 25:37.6 and Prescott Noll rounded out the scoring with a time of 26:03.7 to place 200th.
The Hurricanes return to action Sept. 26 for the Seminole Invite in Tallahassee, Florida.
