Hurricanes Earn First Win of 2025

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (1-1) swept the Ohio State Buckeyes (0-2), 3-0, on Saturday night in the Knight Sports Complex for their first win of the season.

The Hurricanes tallied 43 kills, 42 digs, 14 blocks and three aces. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 17 kills, while graduate student Jazmin Vergara had four block assists and senior Naylani Feliciano notched 19 digs.

Set one started close, as Miami led 10-8 following three kills from Heredia Colon. The Hurricanes went on to go up 21-13 after back-to-back kills from graduate student Jazmin Vergara. Taking the opening set, 25-18, Miami hit on a .236 clip to open the match.

The Hurricanes kept the momentum into set two, where they led 10-4 after consecutive kills from senior Dalia Wilson and Heredia Colon. Redshirt sophomore Rodriguez then picked up a pair of kills to propel Miami to a 14-7 lead. Carney, Heredia Colon and Rodriguez each claimed kills and gave the Hurricanes the 23-12 advantage before ultimately taking set two, 25-16.

Ohio State opened set three with the lead, before Carney’s eighth kill of the match gave Miami their first lead of the set, 12-11. Rodriguez then notched her second ace of the game for the 20-16 advantage. A block from Wilson and Rodriguez pushed Miami over the edge for the 25-21 set win.

Miami will remain home as they host the 305 Challenge on Sept. 4-5.
