
Miami Falls in Five to Indiana
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (0-1) fell to the Indiana Hoosiers (1-0), 3-2, on Friday night in the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 57 kills, 33 digs, 13 blocks and 12 aces. Junior Ava Carney led the team with 17 kills; sophomore Logan Wiley had nine block assists and senior Naylani Feliciano notched 13 digs.
The Hurricanes started out on a 4-0 scoring run with senior Dalia Wilson behind the serving line. The Hoosiers then went on to cut the lead to 12-11, before kills from redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez and senior Flormarie Heredia Colon pushed Miami onto the 18-13 advantage. Keeping the momentum, Miami took five consecutive points, led by Heredia Colon’s two aces to give the Hurricanes the 25-18 set.
Indiana led 4-2 to open set two, until Miami went on another 4-0 run to take the 8-5 lead. The set stayed tight, with both teams equal at 12 until the Hurricanes once again pulled away following back-to-back blocks from Wiley to lead 19-15, ultimately taking the second set, 25-17.
Set three traded points and was led by Carney as she notched a block and kill to lead Miami, 9-8. Heredia Colon then picked up her seventh kill to tie it up at 14-all. Despite Miami earning the most kills in set three, Indiana took their first set of the match, 25-19.
The Hoosiers controlled the beginning of set four, leading 7-3, before the Hurricanes came alive and notched another four-point run. Wilson took back-to-back blocks to lead Miami 13-11, until Indiana led once again 21-19, ultimately forcing a fifth set.
The final set saw Indiana taking complete control, leading 10-3. Miami climbed back to cut it close but fell 15-11.
Miami will face Ohio State on Saturday following the Indiana vs. VCU match.
