Williams Named Assistant Swimming Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head swimming coach Andy Kershaw announced the addition of Liberty Williams to the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff Tuesday.

Williams’ hire is pending the completion of a standard University background check.

“Liberty is hungry to begin her career as a collegiate coach and will be a great role model for our student-athletes and a great resource for our program,” Kershaw said. “She brings a wealth of elite-level experience as a swimmer herself and has been a leader on great teams.”

Williams joins the Hurricanes after a standout collegiate career split between Louisville (2020-2023) and Alabama (2023-25), where she was ranked in the top five in several events with the Crimson Tide.

She was a multiple-time NCAA Championships qualifier and earned NCAA All-America recognition during her undergraduate career.

“I have had the opportunity to see Miami succeed firsthand over the last five years and I am excited to become part of a program with such promising forward momentum,” Williams said.

Williams, who set multiple school records during her time at Louisville before transferring to Alabama, joins a Hurricanes swimming staff that also includes associate head coach Zach Hinsley.

The Hurricanes are fresh off a 13th place finish at the 2025 NCAA Championships, where they had multiple swimmers & divers qualify and score points across four events. Williams said she is excited to contribute to and help build on the program’s upward trajectory.

“I am honored to have been selected to join the University of Miami coaching staff and to work alongside Coach Kershaw and Hinsley,” she said. “The athletic department and aquatics staff have all been incredibly kind and welcoming to me and I am looking forward to beginning this new chapter with the University of Miami swimming & diving team.”

Prior to her undergraduate career, Williams was a three-time Olympic Trials qualifier and also a medal winner in her signature distance events at the Winter Junior National Championships.

“We are really excited that Dan Radakovich and our university are continuing to increase our swimming and diving resources,” Kershaw said. “Adding another full-time assistant coach is one example of that, and Liberty is exactly what we are looking for. The energy, care and drive of our swimming & diving coaches is going to be something special to be a part of and lead.”
