Dear Canes Community,

With just a few competitions remaining, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of Miami Athletics. We had several memorable moments this year and there are more to come!

Super Regional Berth at Stake

Our baseball team (33-25) faces No. 16 Southern Miss tonight in the finale of the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional with a berth in the Super Regionals at stake. J.D. Arteaga’s squad defeated Alabama and Columbia before falling to the Golden Eagles Sunday to set up tonight’s winner-take-all matchup. Daniel Cuvet and Dorian Gonzalez, Jr. have combined for eight hits and 14 RBIs over the first three games of the regional. Tune in at 9 p.m. tonight on ESPNU to cheer on the Canes!

Track & Field Primed for Outdoor Championships

Amy Deem’s track and field squad will be sending 10 Canes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. During last week’s NCAA East First Round meet in Jacksonville. Edgar Campre (decathlon), Desmond Coleman (discus), Devoux Deysel (javelin), Sanaa Hebron (400m hurdles), Kennedy Sauder (high jump), Deisiane Teixeira (javelin), Christina Warren (triple jump), and the women’s 4x400m relay of Serena Tate, Gabriella Grissom, Alyssa Robinson and Hebron all punched their tickets to the championships, which will take place June 11-14. Congratulations to our NCAA qualifiers and good luck out west!

Countdown to Kickoff

We are less than 100 days until the start of the 2025 football season when the Canes will host Notre Dame at Hard Rock Stadium before a nationally televised ABC audience on Sunday, August 31. It will be the Fighting Irish’s first road game at Miami in eight years and only the second in the past 36 years.

Last week the ACC announced our kickoff times and networks for three more home games. We will host Bethune-Cookman on September 6 at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra, and welcome USF to Hard Rock on September 13 at 4:30 p.m. on The CW. Our ACC home opener on Friday, October 17 against Louisville will kick off at 7 p.m. on either ESPN or ESPN2.

Academic Success

We had 72 student-athletes across 12 of our programs participate in spring commencement on May 9 and I couldn’t be prouder of what they have accomplished. They have competed at the highest level while challenging themselves in the classroom. I am excited to see where their life’s journey takes them from here and I hope to see all of them back on our campus often, engaging as proud University of Miami alumni.

Our strong work is evident by the NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Rate report, where Miami scored a 992, eight points above the national APR average. Thank you to our staff and coaches for their diligent work in helping our student-athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.

100 Student-Athlete Stories

In conjunction with Miami’s centennial celebration, we have created “100 Student-Athletes Stories,” a weekly online series celebrating 100 of Miami’s most successful and influential student-athletes across all sports. This week’s honorees include Bruce Brown and Edgerrin James. Click here to check out the entire list of stories from now through the end of the year!

Also in conjunction with the centennial we have published 100 Years, 100 Games: The Greatest Football Games in Miami Hurricanes History looks back at a century of UM football from the program’s humble beginnings to its rise as a college football power. This 162-page book, written by Carter Toole with a foreward by Jimmy Johnson, captures the history, theater and legacy of University of Miami football and is the perfect gift for any Hurricanes fan. Click here to preorder!
