Hurricanes Compete at Miami International Regatta
MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team had a strong showing at the Miami International Regatta Saturday, as the collegiate four earned a first-place finish and the collegiate eight secured a second-place finish.
“I am incredibly proud of how our women performed today – they were strong, relentless, and committed from the first stroke to the finish,” said Assistant Coach Maydelissa Pinell. “Our collegiate 8+ had a very close race with NSU’s varsity eight, finishing less than a second behind. Our 4+ was also impressive, surging back in the final 150 meters to clinch a thrilling come-from-behind win. We want to thank Nova Southeastern for coming down to race. Seeing our newcomers and first-year athletes pushing through the tough conditions and with many racing for the first time, showed remarkable resilience and heart. I am beyond excited about the progress we are making and the speed we are building as we head toward the Big 10 Invitational in Sarasota.”
The Hurricanes had two boats compete at the event, with the collegiate eight racing first. Miami’s collegiate eight crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 5:13.637, just .9 seconds behind Nova Southeastern who took first place.
The collegiate four followed with an impressive performance, as they earned a time of 6:03.659 to cross the finish line in first place. The Canes finished just over nine seconds ahead of Nova Southeastern who came in second place.
Miami will return to competition on April 18 in Sarasota, Florida, where they will begin competing at the Big Ten Invitational.
