
Miami Posts 10 Wins on Final Day of Hurricane Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami track and field team recorded 10 wins and several program top five marks Saturday as it concluded competition at the Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium.
Devoux Deysel opened the day with a stellar performance, winning the javelin with the nation’s best throw at 76.52m. Aaron Kim recorded the fourth-best performance in school history in the high jump with a clearance of 2.11m to win the event.
The Hurricanes swept the 4x100m relay titles. The women’s squad of Juliana Balon, Janay Moorer, Alyssa Robinson and Iyonna Codd won with a time of 44.77 while the men’s team of Carter Cukerstein, Ashton Torns, Lance Ward and Ace Malone posted the second-fastest time in program history at 39.76.
In the women’s 1500m, Daphnee Lavassas took home first place with a time of 4:24.78 as Maddie Scheier recorded the fifth-fastest time in program history at 4:27.94.
Brittney Jennings took home third in the 100m hurdle final, clocking a 13.88. In the women’s 400m, Sanaa Hebron won with a time of 53.64 as Serena Tate placed second at 55.04.
Carter Cukerstein won the men’s 100m at 10.68. In the women’s 400m hurdles, Morgan Roundtree placed third at 1:02.30.
In the women’s triple jump, Christina Warren won with a jump of 13.29m as Mitilde Tejos finished third at 12.19m. Erikka Hill was runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 14.44m.
The Hurricanes took home first and third in the women’s 200m as Alyssa Robinson posted a time of 23.28 to win the event and Hebron was third at 23.54. Malone took home silver in the men’s 200m with a time of 21.09.
Scheier registered a win in the women’s 2000m steeplechase with a time of 6:56.93.
Miami returns to action March 28-29 as it hosts its final home meet of the season, the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, at Cobb Stadium.
