Two School Records Fall on Final Day of Tiger Paw Invitational
CLEMSON, S.C. — Gabriella Grissom and the men’s 4x400m relay squad of Sean Watkins Jr., George Franks, Lance Ward and Solomon Strader broke school records Saturday as the University of Miami track and field team closed out competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Grissom got the Hurricanes started in stellar fashion as the Fayetteville, Georgia, native clocked a 2:03.01 to better Kayla Johnson’s time of 2:03.80 set in 2021. Grissom improved her time in the event by 1.73 seconds.
Miami finished the meet strong in the day’s final event as Watkins Jr., Franks, Ward and Strader broke the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:06.40. The group broke the record set earlier this year by Strader, Ace Malone, Franks and Watkins Jr., by .75 seconds.
In the men’s 800m, Josh Jones improved his fifth-best mark in program history with a time of 1:49.59.
Caine Stanley moved up in the record book as the freshman clocked a 21.20 in the 200m to move into third all-time in program history. Cormac O’Brien put his name on the all-time list as he ran an 8:21.64 in the 3000m, the third-fastest time in school annals.
Christina Warren set a new indoor personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 13.00m to finish in second.
The Hurricanes return to action March 1-3 for the ACC Indoor Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky.
