Dear Canes Community,

It’s a busy time of year for Miami Athletics as 10 of our teams are in action in February. We hope to see you on campus throughout the month cheering on the Canes!

Men’s Basketball Update

Our men’s basketball team secured its first ACC win of the season Saturday with an exciting comeback victory over Notre Dame at Watsco Center. The Canes trailed by 11 at halftime before rallying for a 63-57 win behind 21 points from Matthew Cleveland. We are back in action this coming Saturday at Louisville. Tipoff is 2 p.m. on ESPN2.

It has been a disappointing season, but interim head coach Bill Courtney has this team fighting hard and now more than ever we need your support for our four remaining home games against Syracuse (February 11), Virginia Tech (February 22), No. 2 Duke (February 25) and NC State (March 8). Let’s create a terrific atmosphere at Watsco Center down the stretch for our student-athletes!

We have started the search for our next head coach and as expected interest is high for a program that is just two seasons removed from a Final Four run and competes in one of the country’s top basketball conferences. We are committed to finding a leader who will embrace our basketball community and have the Canes back quickly competing for postseason success.

Cavinder Pacing Canes

Our women’s basketball squad dropped a hard-fought contest Sunday to No. 20 Georgia Tech, but Haley Cavinder turned in another terrific performance, pouring in a game-high 25 points. Haley is having an All-ACC caliber season, averaging 18.8 points per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC. She is also averaging 6.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest.

Tricia Cullop’s squad next faces No. 10 Duke in Durham Sunday. Tipoff is 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. We have three remaining home games against Florida State (February 16), third-ranked Notre Dame (February 20) and Wake Forest (February 23). We hope to see you at Watsco Center cheering on the Canes the rest of the season!

Football Schedule Released

Our 2025 football schedule has been released and it features one of the more anticipated home slates in recent memory. The Canes have eight home games, starting with a blockbuster season opener on Sunday, August 31, against Notre Dame, this past season’s College Football Playoff runner-up. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on ABC. Miami last hosted the Fighting Irish in 2017.

The season opener is followed by three straight home games against Bethune-Cookman (September 6), USF (September 13) and Florida (September 20). This is the Gators’ first visit to Hard Rock Stadium to play the Canes since 2013.

We jump into ACC play on Saturday, October 4 at Florida State. Our home conference opener is against Louisville on Friday, October 17, followed by our first-ever encounter with Stanford at Hard Rock on Saturday, October 25.

We welcome Syracuse for Homecoming on November 8 and NC State for Senior Day on November 15. November also features three road games at SMU (November 1), Virginia Tech (November 22), and Pittsburgh (November 29). It will be a challenging schedule, but Mario Cristobal and his staff are hard at work preparing for the season.

See You at The Light

Baseball opens its season on Friday, February 14 with a three-game series against Niagara at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. J.D. Arteaga enters his second season as head coach with a young, exciting group, led by preseason All-America third baseman Daniel Cuvet.

Overall, the Canes will face 12 teams that made last season’s NCAA Tournament, including five that reached the 2024 College World Series. Highlighting the home schedule are three-game ACC series against Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State and Notre Dame.

ACC, ESPN Announce Extension

Last week the ACC and ESPN announced the renewed commitment of their long-term media partnership. ESPN exercised its option to extend the league’s base rights agreement and ESPN will continue as the ACC’s media partner through 2035-36.

This extension represents a clear commitment by ESPN to the ACC’s long-term future. Miami is a proud member of the ACC, and we will continue to help identify creative and innovative opportunities to drive value through our ESPN partnership and make the ACC the best conference it can be.
