Three Hurricanes Notch AVCA All-Region Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three Miami Hurricanes were among those recognized with East Coast All-Region honors, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon and redshirt freshman Ariana Rodriguez earned their first career recognitions, while sophomore Grace Lopez picked up her second regional accolade after being named an All-American last season.

The trio adds to its postseason awards list with the designation, as Heredia Colon (first team) and Lopez (second team) were selected for All-ACC honors in late November.

Heredia Colon made the all-region list after leading the ACC in kills (490) and points (562.5) for the majority of the season, while maintaining second in points per set (4.93) and kills per set (4.30). In addition to her dominant stats, Heredia Colon earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week after helping her team to an undefeated weekend.

In her second season as a Hurricane, Lopez finished the regular season fifth in total points (470) in the ACC, while claiming sixth in total kills (400). She was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice. With the accolade, Lopez has gone back-to-back in conference honors, as she was selected to the All-ACC First Team and All-Freshman team last season.

Rodriguez tallied 1,058 assists in her first season playing on the court with the Hurricanes, putting herself No. 7 all-time in Miami history. She also notched 234 digs, 79 kills, 77 blocks and 41 service aces for honorable mention status. Additionally, she picked up three ACC Setter of the Week awards.
