Miami Earns 10th Shutout With 3-0 Win Over Clemson
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (19-9, 10-7) swept the Clemson Tigers (10-18, 2-15), 3-0, on Friday night in the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 46 kills, 40 digs, seven blocks and seven aces. Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon and sophomore Grace Lopez led the team with 14 and 13 kills, respectively.
Miami took a 10-7 lead to start off the set after junior Dalia Wilson picked up her fourth kill of the night. Clemson then called a timeout after Lopez earned her fourth kill as well to lead 18-13. After 17 kills from the Hurricanes, they took the opening set, 25-21.
Set two started with a 5-1 lead for Miami after redshirt freshman Ariana Rodriguez claimed back-to-back aces. The Tigers kept it close, tying it at 13-all after a 4-0 run. Heredia Colon tallied her eighth kill for the 18-16 advantage over Clemson. Miami claimed 11 digs to take set two, 25-22.
Clemson got off on a strong foot, leading 5-3. The two teams kept battling and were going point-for-point, until Miami pulled away to take the 20-15 advantage following back-to-back kills from senior Nyah Anderson. The Tigers went on a 3-0 run to only trail 23-22, until Wilson earned a solo block to notch the third set, 25-22.
The Hurricanes are back at the Knight on Sunday, Nov. 24 to take on No. 15 Georgia Tech.
