Haley Cavinder’s 31-point Performance Fuels Miami to 83-73 Road Win Over Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Haley Cavinder scored 31 points in what was a sensational performance, and the University of Miami women’s basketball (3-0) team shot 58.2 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from behind the arc to earn an impressive 83-73 road victory over Florida (3-1). 

Cavinder was nothing short of incredible, reaching 31 points on 13-23 shooting from the field, while also grabbing six rebounds, dishing out five assists, and recording two steals.  

Jasmyne Roberts chipped in 14 points on a near-perfect 5-6 shooting from the field, and the senior also pulled down three rebounds and tallied two steals.  

Hanna Cavinder had a tremendous outing for the Canes, scoring 12 points, in addition to grabbing six boards, dishing out five assists, and tallying two steals. She finished the contest with a game-high plus/minus of +22 in 36 minutes of action. 

For the second consecutive game, Darrione Rogers came off the bench and provided an enormous offensive spark for the Canes. Rogers had eight points, and she buried 2-4 shots from behind the arc. 

Miami came out hot offensively and maintained that level of play throughout the contest.  

The Canes buried their first five field goal attempts, as they built a 23-17 lead after the first quarter.  

Miami proceeded to shoot 62.5 percent from the field in the second stanza, as they completely took control of the game and dominated the Gators in the period. The Canes were able to extend their lead up to 15 points entering halftime. 

Florida attempted to rally in the third period, as they outscored Miami 27-17 to trim the deficit down to five points entering the final period.  

Miami shot 60 percent from the field and 80 percent from behind the arc in the final period, as they went on to earn the 10-point road victory over Florida to remain unbeaten. 

Notable Stats: 

• Miami outscored Florida in the paint, 42-34.  

• The Canes knocked down 12 of 14 free throw attempts for a clip of 85.7 percent.  

• Miami outrebounded Florida, 29-27. 

• The Canes recorded eight steals in the contest and forced the Gators into 19 turnovers. 

• Haley and Hanna Cavinder combined for 43 points on 18-29 shooting from the field (62.1%). 

• Haley Cavinder is the first Miami player to record a stat line of 31 points, six rebounds, and five assists. 

Miami will return to the court on Tuesday, November 19, when they will host FIU at 7 p.m.
