Canes Rowing Celebrates Successful Homecoming Weekend
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team had a successful homecoming weekend, consisting of a scrimmage against UCF, a reception for the M Club, a post scrimmage brunch, and an alumni rowing event.
The Hurricanes hosted around 40 rowing alumni, and it was the first time in nearly a decade that they were able to get that many alumni together.
The weekend began with an M Club reception on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, the Canes competed against UCF in a scrimmage at the Miami Beach Rowing Club. The two squads did four 3000m pieces as a joint practice, and the event was positive for both programs.
“Many thanks to Coach Allen and her team for coming down to race with us,” said Head Coach James Mulcahy. “It was a beautiful day at Miami Beach to take hard strokes, and having a team to compete against, along with so many alums to cheer us on made it even more special.”
Following the scrimmage on Saturday, Miami hosted a brunch for the alumni in town, and then allowed them to participate in a row, completing the tremendous weekend with so many exceptional alumni.
“What a great weekend to be a Miami Hurricane!” said Mulcahy. “The team had a great time scrimmaging UCF, and it was so wonderful having our alumni come home. We had a great time meeting so many former rowers and coxswains that were part of Miami Rowing’s most historic successes, and it was great watching them have fun reconnecting with old friends and taking strokes on the water again – and they’ve still got it! Our sincerest thanks to everyone who came out and made this weekend a big success.”
The Canes will be off until November 9, when they will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to compete at the Head of the Black Warrior River, hosted by Alabama.
