Dear Canes Community,

It has been an exciting start to our fall season, particularly in football, where the Canes have risen to No. 6 in the polls – our highest ranking in seven seasons. We are also preparing for the start of basketball season, which is less than a month away. It’s a busy time on campus for the Canes!

Football

Mario Cristobal’s team staged an epic comeback this past Saturday at California, rallying from 25 points down to defeat the Golden Bears 39-38 and run their record to 6-0. The Canes scored touchdowns on their final four possessions and sealed the win with a late interception. Cam Ward continued his sensational season, throwing for 437 and two touchdowns. He continues to lead the nation in total offense, passing yards and touchdown passes. Thanks to everyone who supported us in Berkeley and all the Canes fans who stayed up late to cheer us on back home!

The Canes are off this week before we continue ACC play at Louisville on Saturday, October 19. Our next home game is our Homecoming game against Florida State on Saturday, October 26. Tickets are still available. Click here or call 1-800-GO-CANES. We want to pack Hard Rock Stadium when the Seminoles come to town!

Olympic Sports Update

Our volleyball team is 10-5 overall and 1-3 in ACC play after splitting a pair of matches in Virginia this past weekend. The Canes next host Notre Dame on Friday at 7 p.m. at Knight Sports Complex. Our soccer team (4-5-3 overall, 0-3-2 ACC) defeated FAU 1-0 Sunday at Cobb Stadium. Giovana Canali scored her eighth goal of the season, which ranks fourth in the ACC.

Cross country competed at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., this past weekend and next races at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday, October 19. Golf secured its third top-five finish of the fall after placing fourth at the Edie Odom Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va. Swimming and diving defeated FIU in its opening dual meet and next heads to the SMU Classic Friday to compete against a strong field.

Gearing Up for Canes Hoops

Basketball season is just around the corner. Our men’s and women’s basketball teams have been preparing for what promises to be an exciting season, and both are traveling to Charlotte this week for ACC Tipoff.

Jim Larrañaga’s squad returns veteran guards Nijel Pack and Matthew Cleveland, as well as an impressive freshman class and group of talented transfers. Tricia Cullop’s roster also boasts a talented mix of returnees and newcomers, including the return of Haley and Hanna Cavinder.

Both basketball schedules have been released and once again we have an exciting slate of games at Watsco Center from November to March. Our men’s team hosts Duke, Florida State, Virginia and Syracuse in conference play, as well as Arkansas in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Our women’s team hosts the likes of Florida State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech in ACC play in addition to Vanderbilt in their ACC/SEC Challenge matchup.

Season tickets are on sale now. Click here or call 1-800-GO-CANES. We hope to see you at Watsco Center all season long!

Di Fazio Elevated to Head Diving Coach

Dario di Fazio has been hired as our head men’s and women’s diving coach, succeeding Randy Ableman, who retired in August after leading our program for 35 years.

Dario is also no stranger to Miami Diving after serving as our assistant coach for 28 years and helping 11 Canes divers capture 15 NCAA titles. He has been a huge part of our success in men’s and women’s diving, and we are confident he is the right leader to keep Miami competing for ACC and NCAA championships.

Miami Partners with City National Bank

Two of South Florida’s deepest-rooted institutions – the University of Miami and City National Bank of Florida – are teaming up to create a new partnership that will span the entire university ecosystem as CNB becomes the Official Bank of the University of Miami.

As part of the partnership, CNB will be presenting sponsor of our “Hometown Hero” program and our “Canes in the Community” programs in support of student-athlete involvement across South Florida. CNB will also be a presenting partner of our football gameday festivities at Hard Rock Stadium and the new City National Bank Courtside Club, the premium hospitality lounge at Watsco Center.

City National Bank is truly emblematic of South Florida. I’ve seen the incredible opportunities they offer to families and businesses in our region, and I’m thrilled to see this partnership come to fruition as we work together to continue making a positive impact for the University community and South Florida.

UM Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Golf Tournament

The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame & Museum will be holding its 32nd annual Celebrity Golf Tournament on Thursday, October 24 at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables. This year’s tournament will honor Miami’s 1999 national championship baseball team, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ari Arteaga Foundation.

Visit canesgolf.com or call 305-284-2775 to register your team today. We hope to see you at the Biltmore on October 24!

Canes Connection

You can support student-athletes through Canes Connection, and as a benefit of that support, receive exclusive access to a wide variety of benefits including direct interaction and engagement with student-athletes.
