Hurricanes Have Successful Outing at Head of the Indian Creek

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing team opened the fall portion of the schedule Saturday morning, taking part in the Head of the Indian Creek at the Miami Beach Rowing Club against Nova Southeastern.

“We decided to do the first race today in mixed lineups so that every crew should be as evenly matched as possible, and the closeness of their times over the 4000m race distance is evidence of that,” said Head Coach James Mulcahy. “We were really pleased with how all crews raced today – they rowed long, strong strokes, kept the rates low, and focused on pushing their boats as far per stroke as they could. They did not get distracted by wind or rain, and stayed focused through any possible distractions. We’ve got a deep and capable group of athletes, so it will be really exciting to see how things develop from now until our next races.”

The Hurricanes kicked off the day with a 4000-meter head race in fours and eights, racing three teams in the Collegiate 8+, as well as the Collegiate 4+.
