Miami Secures Sweep Against Texas Tech
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team (8-2) claimed the 3-0 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-3), 3-0, Friday night in the Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes tallied 50 kills, 58 digs, five service aces and four blocks. Sophomore Grace Lopez notched 19 kills on a .562 clip, while redshirt freshman Ariana Rodriguez secured a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs.
Miami took control of set one, leading 11-6 after a block from junior Flormarie Heredia Colon. The Hurricanes maintained the lead due to four different Canes earning a kill to go up 17-12. Texas Tech climbed back with a 4-0 run and tied the match at 19-all before the Red Raiders ultimately went up by two. Miami pulled back to take set one, 25-23.
Set two started with a 6-2 lead for the Hurricanes after a Milana Moisio ace. Holding a strong lead after a 5-0 run, Heredia Colon earned three kills in four points for the 14-8 advantage. The Red Raiders once again came back to tie at 16-all, but the Hurricanes were the ones who prevailed, earning the 25-23 set win.
The third set was tight from the start, but with back-to-back aces from Heredia Colon and five kills from Lopez, the Hurricanes led 16-12. Miami continued to dominate the rest of the set with 17 kills with only six errors to notch the final set, 25-17.
The Hurricanes will remain home to host FIU on Sept. 21 for the final day of the 305 Challenge.
