Miami Secures 3-1 Win Over Indiana
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Miami volleyball team (4-0) defeated the Indiana Hoosiers (3-2), 3-1, Friday night in the Gregory Gymnasium.
The team totaled 54 kills, 54 assists, 46 digs, seven blocks and seven aces in their victory against the Hoosiers. Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon once again led the team in kills with 18, while junior Dalia Wilson earned four blocks.
Miami started set one with a 11-7 lead with six kills from four different Canes and a solo block by junior Flormarie Heredia Colon. The lead extended to 18-11 after sophomore Ava Carney earned back-to-back service aces, forcing the Hoosiers to call a timeout. The Canes then went on a 3-0 run after the team picked up their 14th kill, ultimately taking the opening set, 25-17.
Set two started with a 6-3 Indiana lead, before Miami went on a 6-0 scoring run with help from redshirt freshman Bianka Lulic’s back-to-back kills to lead 10-7. Both teams traded points with constant set-tying plays, until Miami went on a 3-0 run highlighted by an ace from redshirt freshman Ariana Rodriguez to lead 22-20. Carney then secured the second set, 25-23, with her eighth kill of the match.
Indiana took a commanding 18-5 lead in the third set. Miami struggled to cut the deficit, as they wrapped up the set with only nine kills.
The fourth set was tight from start to finish. Senior Yaidaliz Rosado capped off the 4-0 run with an ace to lead Miami, 13-10. After back-to-back kills from Heredia Colon and Lopez, the Canes to led 19-16. Notching the team’s 54th kill, Wilson slammed one down to give the Canes the 25-22 set win.
The Canes will remain in Austin to face No. 1 Texas tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET.
