Head Coach Deem Promotes Jason Martin to Horizontal Jumps Coach
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem has promoted Jason Martin to Assistant Coach – Horizontal Jumps.
Martin, approaching his third season with the Hurricane’s track and field program, has recently served as the Assistant Jumps and Sprints Coach.
“I’m excited to announce the promotion of Coach (Jason) Martin to lead the horizontal jumps group. Over the past two seasons, Coach Martin was an integral part of our jumps and sprints program. He truly cares for the athletes we have here at Miami and I’m excited to see him progress as a coach and continue to build young athletes,” Deem said.
Martin assisted with coaching Russell Robinson to an indoor triple jump national championship, along with Robinson’s ACC and outdoor national championship runner-up performances.
Martin also helped oversee the progression of Christina Warren, who went on to claim second team all-American honors at the NCAA outdoor national championships in the triple jump. Ashton Torns, a rising star for the Hurricanes, was also coached by Martin to first-team All-ACC honors his freshman year in the long jump. In her final season as a Hurricane, Ashley Moore also found success through Martin’s coaching – achieving first-team All-ACC honors in the long and triple jump.
Before his time in Coral Gables, Martin spent one season as an assistant at The University of Akron specializing in the jumps group, where he assisted the women’s team to two conference team titles, including one women’s conference-recording triple jump of 13.53m, three school records, 13 All-MAC conference performers, six conference championships, and five all-time program history marks.
Martin began his coaching career at Coffeyville coaching the jumps group, he had one NJCAA national champion in the women’s long jump, six All-Americans, 27 national qualifiers, 23 all-region athletes, and five school records.
