Deysel Captures First Team All-American Honors on Day One of National Championships

EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Miami track and field team completed day one of the NCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships Wednesday evening at Hayward Field.

Miami javelin thrower Devoux Deysel captured his first division one First Team All-American honors of his career. Deysel earned bronze in Wednesday’s javelin completion, throwing 75.14m (246 feet, 6 inches), which was good for third place. He becomes the first Hurricane in school history to score at national championship meet in the javelin event.

Edgar Campre, after day one of the men’s decathlon competition, stands in fourth place with 4249 points. 

Campre started his day strong, earning a personal best in the 100m with 10.56, good for second. He then went on to capture three more personal bests in the long jump (7.24m), shot put (15.34m) and 400m (48.16). 

The final day of the men’s decathlon will start at 2:30 p.m. eastern time with 110m hurdles.

Deisiane Teixeira will get things started for the women’s team in the javelin — scheduled for 9:45 p.m. eastern time.
