Four Hurricanes Punch Their Ticket To National Championships In Oregon
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Four members of the University of Miami track and field qualified for the 2024 NCAA National Championships throughout Friday’s east preliminary round in Lexington.
The 2024 NCAA Indoor National Champion in the men’s triple jump, senior Russell Robinson will return to Eugene, Oregon, after jumping an outdoor season best 16.67m (54 feet, 8.25 inches) — the best mark of the competition. Last outdoor season, Robinson finished runner-up at the national championships in Austin, Texas with a triple jump mark of 16.94m (55 feet, 7 inches).
ACC Discus Champion Milton Ingraham II also advanced to the national championships. Ingraham II’s discus throw of 58.44m (191 feet, 9 inches) earns the Miami, Florida native a second appearance at the outdoor national championships in his collegiate career. Ingraham’s first showing at an outdoor national championship was last outdoor season, where the Florida State transfer finished sixth with a throw of 61.44m (201 feet, 7 inches).
ACC Indoor High Jump Champion and outdoor bronze medalist Kennedy Sauder leaped 2.14m (7 feet, 0.25 inches) to punch his ticket to the second outdoor national championship of his career. Sauder’s last appearance at nationals came in 2022, where the Liberty transfer ended with a height of 2.15m (7 feet, 0.5 inches), good for 15th.
Senior sprinter Solomon Strader clocked a lifetime best 45.52 in the men’s 400m to earn his way to Oregon as well. This will be Strader’s first appearance at an NCAA National Championship.
The final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round is scheduled to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. Freshman thrower Calea Jackson will start things off for the Hurricanes in the women’s discus.
