Teixeira Earns Bid to Oregon, Pierre-Webster and Varela Advance on Day Two of East Prelims
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Miami track and field team completed day two of the NCAA East Preliminary round, with Deisiane Teixeira leading the Hurricanes with a memorable performance.
The 2024 ACC Outdoor Champion in the women’s javelin, Teixeira threw 56.03m (183 feet, 10 inches) to advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Teixeira’s mark bested her previous school record of 53.98m, which she achieved back in March. This will be the UNLV transfer’s first appearance at an outdoor national championship in her collegiate career.
In the women’s 400m, ACC Silver Medalist Makenzy Pierre-Webster clocked 52.62 to advance to the quarterfinals, which is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Saturday. Pierre-Webster earned an automatic qualification after finishing with the second fastest time in heat two.
Senior Natalie Varela, with a personal best time of 2:05.03, moves on to the women’s 800m quarterfinals — scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
Friday’s events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. eastern time, where the 2024 ACC Outdoor Champion in the men’s discus, Milton Ingraham II, will start things off for the Hurricanes.
