Deysel Dominates His Way to Eugene, Strader Advances on Day One of East Prelims
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Miami javelin thrower Devoux Deysel and sprinter Solomon Strader highlight the Hurricanes on day one of the 2024 NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Deysel, the 2024 ACC Outdoor Champion in the men’s javelin, threw an impressive mark of 76.81m (252 feet) to advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in two weeks.
Deysel’s historic throw breaks his previous school record of 76.58m, is a new facility record at the University of Kentucky’s Shively Track and Field Stadium and was the top mark during Wednesday’s competition.
An ACC outdoor bronze medalist in the 400m, senior Solomon Strader qualified for the events’ quarterfinals after clocking 46.30 in the event. The 400m quarterfinals is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Friday, weather permitting.
Day two of the east preliminary round will begin at 10 a.m. eastern time, where Erikka Hill will kick things off for the Hurricanes in the women’s hammer throw.
