Canes Shine on Senior Day
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami track and field team completed its final home meet of the outdoor season Saturday evening at Cobb Stadium.
High jumper Kennedy Sauder put on an exciting performance in the men’s high jump. The 2024 ACC indoor champion finished with an outdoor season best of 2.18m for a first place finish.
Sauder’s leap takes down 1996’s Tim James’ 2.17m for the second-best high jump in outdoor school history.
Russell Robinson, the 18th national champion in the program’s history, finished first in the men’s triple jump. His season opening jump of 16.30m, is currently ranked second in the NCAA.
Devoux Deysel earned the Hurricanes the first win on day two of the alumni invitational in the men’s javelin.
Deysel’s throw of 74.67 meters bested the competition for his second first-place finish this outdoor season.
The women’s 4x100m squad comprised of Sophie Haag, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, Alyssa Robinson and Christina Warren clocked 44.89 to deliver Miami another first-place finish.
Sophomore middle distance runner Gabriella Grissom delivered another solid performance in her signature event — the women’s 800m. Grissom ran 2:04.82 for a second-place finish.
In the distance events, Maddie Scheier earned third with a personal time of 4:31.77 in the women’s 1500m.
The women’s 4x400m, comprised of Natalie Varela, Krystalann Bechard, Jemima Mills, and Georgia Tombs earned third place with a time of 3:44.13.
The Hurricanes will send Daphnee Lavassas to the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 11th to run the women’s 10,000m. After that, the Hurricanes will travel is the LSU Alumni Gold on April 20 in Baton Rouge, La. and Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
