Ziehl Tabbed ACC Pitcher of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Following one of the greatest outings in recent Miami Hurricanes baseball history, right-hander Gage Ziehl was named ACC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Ziehl tossed a complete game, striking out a career-high 15 batters against then-No. 3 Clemson, which had won 39 of its 43 previous games heading into the series opener.
The junior limited the potent Tigers to just one earned run across a 118-pitch masterpiece.
Ziehl’s 15 punchouts were the most by a Miami hurler since Bryan Radziewski fanned 16 batters against Virginia Tech on March 23, 2013, and marked the most by an ACC pitcher since North Carolina’s Austin Love struck out 15 hitters against Georgia Tech on May 20, 2021.
The Macedon, N.Y., native threw 88 of his 118 pitches (74.6 percent) for strikes en route to his second complete game in his last three starts.
Ziehl is the second Hurricane to garner an ACC weekly honor in 2024, joining sophomore Blake Cyr (March 11).
Miami begins a four-game road swing Tuesday, as the Hurricanes travel to face Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
