Hurricanes Place Third at UCF Challenge
ORLANDO, Fla. – For the third time this year, the University of Miami golf team recorded a top-three finish, opening the spring season with a third-place finish at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
The Hurricanes closed out play at the Eagle Creek Golf Club on Monday, posting a 54-hole team score of 853 (-11) on the par-72, 6,367-yard course to finish third out of 18 teams.
As a team, Miami totaled 50 birdies, good for third in the tournament, 13 of which came from fourth-year junior Sara Byrne.
Byrne shot seven-under-par (209) to finish tied for fourth overall, marking her third top-five finish this season and the sixth top-10 finish in her career. The Douglas, Cork, Ireland native shot a 69 in the final round of the tournament to secure her top-five finish and has recorded 13 rounds of par-or-better this season.
Freshman Aada Rissanen tallied her second top-20 finish of the season on Monday, shooting a 214 (-2) to conclude the tournament tied for 18th.
Freshman Rebekah Gardner and sophomore Olivia Grønborg each finished tied for 31st after posting a 54-hole even-par score of 216. Gardner shot par-or-better in two of the three rounds, while Grønborg carded a 69 on day two of the tournament.
Freshman Barbora Bujáková totaled a 217 (+1) in the tournament, while fellow freshman Sophie Bierstorfer, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 50th with a score of 220 (+4).
The Hurricanes return to action on Feb. 18 at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in Sarasota, Fla.
