Swimming Cruises to Pair of Wins on Senior Day
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming team cruised to a pair of wins on Senior Day at the Whitten Pool Tuesday.
Miami topped Vanderbilt, 191-70, and beat Iowa, 168-93, in its final home meet of the season.
Six student-athletes were honored in pre-meet festivities and helped set the tone for a dominant day for the host Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes’ top entry in the 200-yard medley relay won the opening event in a time of 1:42.70, and wins from two seniors – Adrianna Cera in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.59) and Savannah Barr in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.20) gave Miami early momentum.
Another senior won the 100-yard backstroke, with Talia Bates clocking a time of 55.45 to add to the lead. Bates added another win in the 100-yard freestyle (50.69) while Jacey Hinton won the 50-yard freestyle (23.58).
Other impressive performances included a win from MK Kelley in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.79) and a second individual victory from Cera, this one in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.41).
The Hurricanes closed the meet strong, taking the first and third place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Miami continues its season on Monday against FGCU and Colorado State in Fort Myers, Fla. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
