Byrne Named Irish Women’s Amateur of the Year
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami golfer Sara Byrne added another accolade to her resume this week, earning the title of Irish Women’s Amateur of the Year, as announced by the Irish Golf Writers’ Association.
Byrne, who also won the Women’s Amateur of the Year award in 2018, was a dominant force on the links in Ireland this season. The Douglas, Cork, native won the AIG Irish Women’s Close for the second time in her career in 2023.
She also finished as the leading amateur in the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle, shooting four-under-par in the tournament and finishing tied for 36th overall.
With the Hurricanes this fall, Byrne has posted five top-20 finishes, including back-to-back title wins in October. Byrne shot 13-under-par at the Pat Bradley Invitational to tie for first with fellow Hurricane Olivia Grønborg.
The fourth-year junior then followed that up with a program record 54-hole score of 197 (-19) at the Hurricane Invitational to clinch her second individual title of the season. Byrne carded 10 rounds of par-or-better in the fall and was named the October ACC Golfer of the Month.
The Hurricanes will take the next few months off from competition and return for the spring season on Feb. 4 at the UCF Challenge.
