Hurricanes Fall To No. 1 Wisconsin In NCAA Second Round
MADISON, Wisc. – The University of Miami volleyball team fell, 3-0, to No. 1-seeded Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.
Miami tallied 40 kills, 51 digs, 39 assists and six blocks. Freshman Grace Lopez earned 15 kills on a .324 hitting percentage, while graduate student Janice Leao hit for .455 and Casiano came up with four blocks.
Set one started close, with the Canes leading the Badgers 14-10 after posting 10 kills. Sophomore Flormarie Heredia Colon and Lopez paired up to continue to smack down points to give Miami the 21-19 lead. Wisconsin went on a 5-0 run to lead and took set one, 25-23.
The second set started the same, with the score even at 10. Sophomore Naylani Feliciano delivered a surprise kill and Lopez, Casiano and Heredia Colon helped out with the rest of the team’s seven kills. Wisconsin kept the momentum and registered 17 kills to take set two, 25-15.
Miami held Wisconsin close to start the third set, only being down 8-6. The Badgers then went on an 8-2 run to go up 16-9. Despite the five kills to close in on Wisconsin, the Badgers prevailed to take the final set, 25-17.
The Hurricanes finished the season with an 18-12 record, two top-ranked sweeps and four All-ACC honorees.
