Byrne Named ACC Golfer of the Month

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami golfer Sara Byrne won two individual tournament championships in October to earn Atlantic Coast Conference Golfer of the Month, as announced by the league Thursday.

Byrne is the first Hurricane to be named ACC Golfer of the Month since Renate Grimstad in February 2020.

The Douglas, Cork, Ireland native not only won a pair of individual tournament titles, but also helped the Hurricanes to back-to-back team titles at the Pat Bradley Invitational and the Hurricane Invitational.

Byrne put together the most impressive 54-hole performance in program history at the Hurricane Invitational, setting a new school record with a 197 (-19). She carded a 63 in the second round of the tournament to also set the program record for an 18-hole performance.

Both marks were previously held by current LPGA golfer Dewi Weber.

Even more impressive is that Byrne flew more than 15 hours the day before the Hurricane Invitational as she was competing for Ireland at the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) in Abu Dhabi.

In the month of October, Byrne totaled seven rounds of par-or-better and finished the month with a stroke average of 68.56 overall.

The Hurricanes will take the next few months off from competition and return for the spring season on Feb. 4 at the UCF Challenge.
