Canes Sweep Boston College
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team claimed its seventh sweep of the season with a victory over the Boston College Eagles Sunday afternoon.
Miami (14-6, 7-3 ACC) tallied 42 kills, 53 digs, 38 assists and four blocks. Freshman Grace Lopez led the team in kills with 16, while junior Yadaliz Rosado racked up 17 digs.
Set one started tight until the Canes pulled away on a 5-0 scoring run to make it 15-8 after numerous kills from sophomore Flormarie Heredia Colon and fifth-year senior Savannah Vach behind the line. The Eagles came back to make it 17-16 and continued to keep it close, but that didn’t stop Miami from prevailing and taking the opening set, 25-23.
The second set felt familiar to the first. Vach and junior Ashley Carr got the momentum going with back-to-back kills to help a 5-0 scoring run, 11-7. The Canes went on an 11-0 scoring run with sophomore Milana Moisio behind the service line to lead 17-7. With the Eagles going on a 4-0 run, Heredia Colon answered with a huge smackdown to extend the advantage. Miami took set two in a dominant fashion, 25-16.
Boston College held the lead to start set three, making it 10-6. A block from sophomore Cianna Tejada and freshman Grace Lopez got things rolling for Miami. With an ace from redshirt senior Angela Grieve and consecutive kills from Heredia Colon, Miami gained control and took the lead, 14-11. After tallying 20 digs, the Canes took the final set, 25-19, to complete the sweep.
The Hurricanes will hit the road to face Notre Dame and Louisville on Oct. 27 and 29, respectively.
